Indian expatriate honoured by Syrian Orthodox Church

INDIAN national and long-time Doha resident Scaria Kuriakose has been conferred the Chevalier title by the supreme spiritual head of the Syrian Orthodox Church Ignatios Zakka I.


The ceremony took place at the head quarters of the church in Damascus recently, according to community sources.Kuriakose, popularly known as Kariakutty has been working at Darwish Travel Agency’s QNT Cargo airport branch since 1973. Archbishop of the Knanaya Syrian Jacobite church Sevarios Mar Kuriakose, church’s other bishops Iyyob Mar Sylvanios, Kuriakose Mar Gregorios and Kuriakose Mar Ivanios also attended the ceremony in Damascus


A native of Neelamperoor in Kerala’s Kottayam district, the award winner is a member of the St Peter’s Knanaya Syrian Orthodox congregation. The honour recognises Kuriakose’s contributions to social activities in the community, according to a statement.
