..." Here is something I have noticed; it is a great mistake and a weakness to be overanxious to prolong our life. Anyway life and death are in God's hands, and the Lord said, 'Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well'. And so our concern and striving should be to live according to his commandments, and to free our hearts from passion.
I wrote to you not to get excited. I meant that you should not strive for higher things prematurely - everything comes in its own time. If we prepare room in our hearts by fulfilling God's commandments, then that good state will come, but it will come to us unexpectedly. Our task is to strive and work, but everything else depends on grace. One further remark; if you condemn, tears and tenderness will not come to you. The Lord give you understanding and keep you! "
