Church Goers Say They Witnessed A Weeping Icon

The Saint Ann icon made headlines three years ago when a priest in Philadelphia said he witnessed oil coming from its eye.

(KDKA) DELAWARE TOWNSHIP The Saint Ann icon made headlines three years ago when a priest in Philadelphia said he witnessed oil coming from its eye.

Since then, it has reportedly happened other times and people at Saints Cyril and Methodios Orthodox Church in Mercer County believe it happened again Friday night.

As singing began after the service, people say they noticed a change in the icon.

“I saw tears coming from the side of her eye, some liquid coming down,” Veronica Buczak said. “All of a sudden I saw it coming.”

Saint Ann is believed to be Mary’s mother, and the grandmother of Jesus.

“The icon began to perspire in certain spots and even we believe in that what I saw and others saw and the right eye began to well up,” according to the Rev. Michael Ellis.

People at the church lined up to see the icon, some bowing before it and kissing it.

Many there believe they saw something powerful.

“In a world that constantly tells us that God is not around and that he’s very far away if he exists at all – this reminds us that he is very much present, very much here,” Ellis said.

The weeping icon will be on display at the Saints Cyril and Methodios Orthodox Church on Camp Nazareth in Delaware Township until 4 p.m. Saturday, August 18.
