Compassion to gays makes the Church condemn unisexual relations - the Moscow Patriarchate

Moscow, June 7, Interfax - The Church condemns the sin of unisexual love because it cares for the people who suffer from this sin, the deputy head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin said.

"The Church lovingly accepts everyone, including those who have passion for the people of the same s ex. But just because she loves them, she says: unis exual love is a sin. A destructive sin," Fr. Vsevolod said answering the questions of the Komsomolskaya Pravda daily readers.

He is convinced that those who tell about "happy, joyful homosexual life" are mistaken.

"Such people are deeply unhappy. I know it from confessions and numerous life stories. It's not by chance that they die earlier and there're more suicides, drug addicts and alcoholics among them," the priest said.

According to him, the Church treats homosexuals in compliance with the Holy Tradition saying "hate the sin and love the sinner."

"I'm neither a homophobe nor a lesbianophobe, but I consider these sinful developments dangerous for a person and thus try to warn against them," Fr. Vsevolod said.
