Patriarch Alexy II has been presented with GLONASS System Satellite navigator

Moscow, December 17, Interfax - Head of the Russian Federal Space Agency Anatoly Perminov has presented Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia with GLONASS System Satellite navigator.

It was a Christmas congratulation of the Roscosmos Federal Space Agency head to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, reported the communication service secretary of the Moscow Patriarchate. The meeting of Perminov and Patriarch Alexy II was held at the Patriarch's residence on the Chisty lane.

As the communication service mentioned, at the meeting Perminov positively appreciated the cooperation between the Russian Church and Federal Space Agency. In particular, he mentioned that there are Orthodox churches at both space centers, where at present time Russian space rockets are launched, in Baikonur and in Plesetsk. Public worships are served there before each launch, and the priest give blessing to cosmonauts who starting to space.

Besides, Perminov mentioned that Orthodox icons had been taken to space stations many times, and in April, 2006 the Live-given cross of the Lord Jesus Christ was taken to the space.

In his reply the Patriarch expressed gratitude to the Roscosmos's head for the cooperation with the Church and wished directors and all employees of the space industry further achievements in forthcoming projects.
