Smolensk, August 12, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church highly estimate heroism of soldiers who sacrificed their lives in South Ossetia.
"We kneel down before our warriors who have already given their lives," chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad said in his sermon after the divine liturgy in the Smolensk Assumption Cathedral.
According to the metropolitan, today Russia "has faced the danger of war and a new wave of slander against our Motherland from those who don't like Russia's historical choice."
The metropolitan urged, "to pray that peace crowns all our trials as soon as possible and peace sets in between two Orthodox peoples of the Caucasus - Georgians and Ossetians."
"We ask God and the Holy Virgin to stop the bloodshed so that our country, as well as Ossetia, Georgia, the Caucasus and the entire world could enjoy peace and prosperity," Metropolitan Kirill said.
