Religious leaders comment Russian patriarch's letter

Religious leaders of the Georgian Orthodox Church have commented the letter sent by the Russian Patriarch Alexei II to Georgian Patriarch Ilia II. They say the letter show the benevolence of the Russian Patriarch to Georgian people.

''We hope that this letter will become a precondition for evading conflicts on religious grounds in Abkhazia and the problems will be solved in agreement with Georgian Orthodox Church,'' representatives of Georgian Patriarch's administration have said.
''Futile is the attempt of various forces to create strife between Georgians and Russians. Current state of relations between the two states sharply disagrees with the long history of friendship of Georgian and Russian nations. Our people were always closely tied with faith, friendship and culture,' the letter of the Russian patriarch says.
