Missing the mark, an Orthodox Christian reflecting on his journey through this world

Are you the Sophocles in this video? I don't know why but I thought you were a convert! This is a GREAT video. It is such a shame that we didn't know about this place when my mom and I used to go to Las Vegas for some quality mother-daughter time each year. She would have loved to enjoy some Greek food while on our annual adventures.
I don't know when my travels will take me to Vegas next but when I get there I'll let you know. By the way...down South we say "yassas y'all"! ;)
Yes, that Sophocles is me and thank you for the compliment on the video.
In many ways I am a convert in that I "left" the Church for many years and returned several years ago amidst much movement towrds the Orthodox Church in many quarters. I discovered for the first time what Orthodoxy was at this return and was hungry for the Church as many converts coming in today are. So from that point of view I really am a convert.
I was interviewed on Come Receive the Light about my return to the Church and that may be found at:

It would be really nice to meet you and your mom on your next visit to Las Vegas, whenever that may be. I have one other blogger so far and its fun.
On another note, several months ago you asked me to write on my experience at St. Anthony's in Arizona and initially I did not write it but later did so. I posted a link on your site in one of the comment boxes and I just want to make sure you received it.
Other than that, God bless your travels and your family.
In Christ,
Sophocles

Sophocles, how great that you have come to realize what you have been given in the Orthodox Church! I imagine your parents are so happy. I have had some good discussions lately with a young man in our parish, who has also returned to the Church after years of rebellion.
Unfortuately Mom passed away last summer so there will be no more trips with her to your city but it isn't unreasonable for me to think I will travel there again for work or with my sister. You'll know me when I visit because I'll be the old lady filling up on Spanakopeta and Dolmades! YUM!
I thank you very much for sharing your visit to the monastery. As one might expect, it seems as if the visit made a permanent impression on you.
If you can believe it...I still haven't gone to a monastery yet. If I ever go to St. Anthony's it will have to be in the winter because I can't imagine long sleeves in those hot Arizona summers! We have the Panagia Prousiotissa Greek Orthodox Monastery not too far from us in North Carolina but the whole Greek language thing remains a hurdle for me so I haven't organized a trip yet. Presbytera has talked about it some...if she makes a trip, I'll go, too. I know it's very important to go.
BTW...I voted for your blog as "best news blog" at http://ecawards.blogspot.com. Kali tihi with that!
Thank you for the vote.
Yes, I now remember when you posted about this difficult time with your Mom, forgive me.
By all means come and raid our spanakopita and dolmathes!
And also glad you got the monastery post.
