Moscow, February 7, Interfax - Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia has congratulated Metropolitan Jerome of Thebes and Levadeia on his election as Archbishops of Athens and All Greece.
"I am convinced that warm relations between our Sister Churches will be maintained in the future," the patriarch said in a message of greetings posted on the Moscow Patriarchate's official website.
Alexy II wished the new head of the Greek Orthodox Church, elected on Thursday, "spiritual and bodily strength in the upcoming hard service."
The Russian patriarch also said he would send a high representative of the Russian Orthodox Church to attend Metropolitan Jerome's enthronement ceremony set for February 16.
