Representatives of Georgian clergy and their parish staged a protest rally outside the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Georgia on Tuesday. The participants of the rally were protesting at the locking of the door of the Orthodox Saint George’s Church in Kakhi, the only one in Saingilo region of Azerbaijan, largely populated with people of Georgian descent, and prohibition of service in the church, by local Azeri residents.
The participants of the rally submitted an appeal to employees of the embassy, saying that Georgian society was anxious about forceful termination of service in the church, falling under supervision of the Georgina Orthodox Church.
Some employees of the Azerbaijani Embassy tried to prevent journalists from featuring the rally, but in vain.
Reports say that the door of the Orthodox Saint George’s Church in Kakhi was locked and orthodox parish was prohibited to conduct warship.
